Andy Warhol photographed in NYC circa 1986
The story behind the photograph …
As a young photo assistant working for the biggest names in photography during the 80’s in New York City, one of my lucky perks was getting access to the legendary nightclub Studio 54. One night, Studio (as the regulars called it) was hosting a big party to celebrate the final days before they shut the doors and of course I had my camera with me. Upon seeing Andy Warhol with his ever present point-and-shoot I found the courage to approach him and ask if he would mind if I took his picture. With a warm smile he said sure and as I nervously pointed my camera at him he quickly and unexpectedly snapped a photo of me at the same exact time as you see here.
